The Federal Government recently announced $17.1 million to help make our beaches more accessible for everyone. This is huge news for our community!
What’s happening at our beaches?
The new Commonwealth Accessible Australia program will fund practical improvements like:
- Beach wheelchairs that can actually handle the sand
- Proper paths and mobi-matting to get onto the beach
- Accessible change rooms
- Inclusive play equipment for everyone to enjoy
The state governments will look after these facilities once they’re built, making sure they stay in good shape for years to come.
Why this matters so much
For many people we support at Pink Ribbon, a day at the beach just hasn’t been possible. The soft sand, lack of proper facilities, and difficult access have kept many from enjoying one of our country’s greatest treasures.
These changes mean more families can create beach memories together.
Imagine being able to cool off on the hot summer days, watch a sunset over the water, or just enjoy the simple pleasure of sand between your toes… regardless of mobility needs.
What does this mean for the Sunshine Coast?
We’re eager to see how these improvements will roll out locally. Our beautiful beaches should be for everyone, and this funding is a step in the right direction.
