If you’re an NDIS participant who sometimes delays submitting invoices, you need to understand an important change that’s now in effect.
A significant NDIS claims rule affects how long you have to submit payment requests.
NDIS Claim Time Limit: What’s Changed?
Since 3 October 2025, the NDIS now automatically rejects claims submitted more than two years after the support start date.
Before October 2024, NDIS participants had no time limit for submitting claims. You could submit invoices from years ago and they would still process. The new NDIS two-year claim rule has changed this completely.
Why Has the NDIS Introduced a Two-Year Claim Deadline?
The National Disability Insurance Agency states this NDIS claims change helps:
- Reduce errors in NDIS payment claims
- Make NDIS payments easier to verify and approve
- Encourage participants to submit NDIS claims promptly
Submitting claims closer to when services occurred means more accurate NDIS invoices with correct information readily available.
NDIS Grace Period Has Now Ended
When the NDIS claim time limit took effect on 3 October 2024, a 12-month grace period was introduced. This NDIS grace period ended at midnight on 2 October 2025.
What this means now is that any NDIS claims older than two years from the support start date will be automatically rejected by the NDIS payment system. This rule is now actively enforced.
What You Need to Do Moving Forward
From now on, you need to submit all NDIS claims within two years of the support start date. Don’t let invoices pile up.
Review your current NDIS paperwork regularly. Stay on top of invoices from recent services to ensure you submit them well within the two-year window.
NDIS Support in Sunshine Coast and Gympie
Pink Ribbon Community Supports Australia helps participants understand NDIS claim requirements. If you need help managing your NDIS paperwork and staying on top of claim deadlines, call us on 1300 062 437.
Self-managed and plan-managed NDIS participants should establish claim tracking systems now. Set calendar reminders for regular NDIS invoice submissions to avoid missing the two-year deadline.
Understanding NDIS Payment Reforms
This NDIS claims change forms part of broader NDIS scheme reforms. The two-year NDIS claim timeframe is reasonable compared to similar government programmes.
Regular NDIS claim submissions prevent administrative backlogs. Submit claims consistently rather than accumulating invoices over months.
Important NDIS Claim Timeline
- 3 October 2024: NDIS two-year claim limit commenced (with grace period)
- 2 October 2025: NDIS grace period ended at midnight
- 3 October 2025 onwards: NDIS claims older than two years are now automatically rejected
Don’t let NDIS claims expire. Review your records regularly and submit claims well before they reach the two-year limit.
